Welcome to Brambles Nubians. The emphasis here is on milk production, balanced with correctness and a body type that will allow for heavy milking does, with high butterfat. Temperament is also a must, for ease of handling and milking.
All kids sold as breeding stock are raised on a CAE preventative program. As such the kids are raised on a colostrum replacer and following that milk replacer or cow's milk. From late May onwards the kids are housed in a separate barn.
The herd is fed on as high a quality hay as is possible, which when necessary is balanced with alfalfa pellets. During the summer months pasture is utilized alongside hay. A 16% dairy ration is provided to the milkers and growing kids.
The herd is tested for CAE regularly. I am currently following protocols implemented in countries where CAE has been eradicated, in order to be able to establish and maintain a true entire herd negative status.
The G6S status of every doe and buck currently in the herd will be completed by Fall 2017.
I also participate in classification through the Canadian Goat Society. I have found this to be a valuable learning experience. I plan to continue classifying the herd in future years.
